The Wellsboro Gridders Club said farewell and honored a group of successful young men and women. The 2006 Senior Football members were honored for all their hard work and dedication they have given to the Wellsboro football program over the last four years. This year's seniors class included Tim Shaw, Pat Clark, Chet Johnson, Jake Monks, Devon Jones, Alejandro Alvarez, Jesse Tom, Levi Hewitt, Jerred Keltz, and Jerry Heichel. Also being honored were managers Sarah Krick and Elena Schiltz.

Whenever North Penn and Wellsboro face off, one thing is certain, the fans will see an excellent football game by both teams. Friday night's game fell under this category, as the Hornets hosted the 8-1 Panthers with the Morton Jones Memorial Trophy and playoffs on the line. Even though North Penn has been unstoppable for much of the season, with their only loss on the year coming against Athens, the Panthers were not the dominating team in the first quarter. The Panthers drew first blood, as Levi Weiskopff carried four Hornet defenders on his back from four yards out.

The Wellsboro JV Team finished their season last night in Wyalusing, tying the Rams 12-12. Wyalusing controlled much of the first half, as they were able to run the ball and control Wellsboro's offense. At the half, Wyalusing was on top by a score of 6-0.

After last week's homecoming victory against Cowanesque Valley, Wellsboro had the chance to do something that it hasn't done in a long time; make the playoffs. Wellsboro, therefore, is in control of its own destiny. If the Hornets can manage to pull out two more wins on the season, finishing 5-5, they will be headed to the Eastern Conference playoffs.

JV team squeaks past Indians, 13-12.

The Wellsboro JV Team traveled to Cowanesque to face the Indians on Monday, just days after the Varsity team defeated them for Homecoming. Wellsboro jumped to an early 7-0 lead, when Garrett Stager caught a pass from Cameron Jones and launched a bullet over two Cowanesque defenders to Steve Mengee. The Hornets were held scoreless for the rest of the first half, as numerous penalties killed potential scoring opportunities.

The Wellsboro Hornets came into their Homecoming game against Cowanesque Valley looking for their third win of the season. Last year, the Indians put up a though struggle last year, but the Hornets had other plans for this year's game. From the opening kickoff, the Hornets dominated the Indians.

The Wellsboro JV Team went into their game against Montgomery with one goal in mind, shut out the Red Raiders like the Varsity. The task at hand was not easy, as Sophomore Wide Receiver Garrett Stager started in place of Quarterback Cameron Jones, as a result of Jones being ejected from last week's game with Troy.

The Wellsboro Green Hornets traveled to Montgomery Friday night to face the Red Raiders in an NTL league matchup. The Hornets and the Red Raiders have only faced off twice before in game situations. The last meeting took place in 2003, where Wellsboro won, 50-0.

The Wellsboro Hornet Junior Varsity team headed into Monday night's contest with a 4-1 record, looking again for redemption from Friday night's varsity game. The Trojans thought different, however, as they put up the game's first points of the night. Wellsboro held tough in the first half, as Junior Safety Chad Shultz intercepted a Troy pass and returned it for a touchdown. At the half, Wellsboro was on top of Troy, 8-7.

Wellsboro drops heartbreaker to Troy.

The Wellsboro Hornets headed into Friday's game against Troy looking to turn their season around. Wellsboro dominated Troy in the first half, holding them scoreless. Wellsboro scored their only touchdown of the night on a four yard Jesse Tom run. On the following kickoff, Sophomore Pat Driebelbies squibbed a short kickoff over Troy's head, allowing Sophomore Matt Weaver to recover the ball, giving the Hornets decent field position. Wellsboro was unable to capitalize, and went into the half with a 6-0 lead.

Wellsboro splits 1-1 with Towanda.

The Wellsboro Green Hornet Varsity Team headed into last Friday's game against Towanda coming off their first win of the year. Things looked good for the Hornets until Towanda Running Back Eric Potter busted up the middle of the Hornet defense to score a 70 yard touchdown on the Black Knights' first offensive play from scrimmage. After the final bell sounded, Towanda shout out Wellsboro 43-0, dropping the Hornets to 1-4 on the season.

The Wellsboro Junior Varsity football team came into Monday night's game with a record of 2-1, hoping to improve it to 3-1. When the game started, Wellsboro dominated the Redskins, scoring on their first three possessions. The Hornets we not able to score anymore points on the night, but were able to hold off a determined Sayre team. When all was said and done, the Hornets defeated the Redskins 20-12, improving their record to 3-1 on the year.
