Senior Darby Alafoginis recorded his 50th carrer goal in a 3-2 loss to Northern Potter. The Hornets played a very tough, physical game, but came up short on the road. Junior Spencer Kreisler scored his first varsity goal in the 27th minute and Darby added his goal at the 55 minute mark on a penalty kick.

The Hornet tennis team fell to Bucktail 7-0 Wednesday night on the road. With the loss, Wellsboro falls to 7-6 on the season. The team will be back in action this Friday, October 7, as they host Wiliamson. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
Wyalusing topped Wellsboro 3-2 in NTL action after a strong first half. The Rams jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to two goals from Paighton Martin. The Hornets would bounce back in the 2nd half, however, as Sophomore Brooke Kohler scored on a pass from Victoria Pearson in the 46th minute. Pearson would later score in the 58th minute to tie the score at 2-2. Wyalusing would go ahead in the 63rd minute to clinch the victory.
Wellsboro shoots a 466 to take 2nd place at Tomasso's Country Club. Senior Brandon Osgood's round of 89 and Freshman Brett Kendrick's score of 90 carried Wellsboro to 2nd behind Towanda (448) and ahead of Northern Tioga (476).
The girls traveled to Troy on Tuesday with a single goal in mind. The goal was to defeat the Sayre's girls team that had just beaten them in the Northeast Invitational on Saturday. The girls ran a super race and were able to defeat Sayre 26-31. What the girls didn’t know is that Troy would be the toughest competition of the day. The girls defeated Troy by the narrow margin of 27-28.
The Sayre boys' team had just defeated Wellsboro in the Northeast Invitational on Saturday. Tuesday was payback time as the boys defeated Sayre by the narrow margin of 27-28. The boys also defeated Troy 18-41. Junior Jordan Jackson paced the way for Wellsboro with a first place finish in a time of 17:51. Senior Bob Owlett finished behind Jackson with a time of 17:56.
The girls volleyball team beat Galeton in three straight games tonight in Wellsboro. The team won 25-15, 25-10, and 25-20 to improve their 2011 season record to 6-4 overall. Senior Marissa Cornell led the Hornets with 6 kills, while Senior Tarah Doty contributed 9 digs. Also, Junior Mackenzie Marple recorded 8 service points and 4 aces and Junior Teahl Butler added in 4 blocks.
The Hornets boys soccer team picked up a win in the slop over in Galeton, 3-2. Senior Darby Alafoginis picked up his 48th and 49th career goals on the night. The first goal came in the 17th minute off a penalty kick and the second came in the 77th minute off an assist from Pat Herres. Senior Zach Pearson added in the other goal in the 69th minute on an assist from Herres.
The girls tennis team defeated Liberty 4-3 Monday night in Wellsboro. The evening started out very even, with the teams splitting lopsided wins in the top four singles matchups. Liberty took the lead into doubles play on the strength of a 5th singles victory that was highlighted by a 9-7 tie-breaker. Wellsboro finished strong, though, winning 1st doubles to tie the match, and then persevering in an exciting 2nd doubles final set tie-breaker to seal the team win.
The Hornets girls soccer team shut out the Williamson Warriors 7-0 on the road Monday night. Senior Taylor Acorn started the scoring for Wellsboro at 9:44. Lauren Bleggi scored next for the Hornets at 34:48 off an assist from Emilie Kramer to push the lead to 2-0 at the half.

The Troy Trojans blanked Wellsboro, 2-0, Friday night in Troy. Louisa Shedden had a goal 10 minutes into the first half for Troy while Emily Hunsicker put the game away with a goal halfway through the second half. Senior Goalie Sherri Hovis made six saves for Wellsboro.
