Lady Hornets fall to Mansfield

The Wellsboro Lady Hornets dropped an NTL West game to rival Mansfield, 54-37 Tuesday night in Wellsboro.

After defeating Mansfield on the road earlier in the year, the Lady Hornets couldn't get the job done at home as they struggled shooting the ball.

"It's difficult to win a game if the team shoots 25%," said head coach Mary Grab. "Simply put, Mansfield was more intense, better organized on offense and very well prepared. Our girls played with a lot of heart but, once again, our shooting was poor."

The Hornets trailed by one point after the first quarter and found themselves down by four at the half, but a 14-point third quarter followed by 12 in the fourth sealed the Lady Hornets fate.

Senior Mackenzie Marple led the team with 11 points, while Freshman Jada Jackson added 10. Senior Hannah Zuchowski had 8 points to go along with 7 rebounds, Freshman Sarah Ingerick had 4 points, and Seniors Kiana Acorn and Kimberly Acorn each had two points.

In the JV game, the Lady Hornets improved to 16-0 as they topped Mansield 45-22. Ingerick led Wellsboro with 19 and Freshman Alexa Singer contributed 9.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 8-10 (5-2 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Thursday, January 31 as they travel to Cowanesque Valley.
