Girls Track 2nd, Boys 3rd at Athens

The Wellsboro Track teams opened the 2015 season on the road at Athens for a tri-meet with the Wildcats and Canton on Wednesday, April 1.

The Lady Hornets finished in second place behind Athens with 77 points. Junior Jada Jackson was 2nd in the 100m (13.29) and Senior Lauren Bleggi was 3rd (13.83). Bleggi finished 4th in the 200m (29.39), Junior Lindsey Graver was 4th in the 400m (1:08.8), and Senior Annie Sweeney was 2nd in the 800m (2:57.38).

Jackson won the 1600m run in 6:02.06 and Sophomore Janessa Davis was 2nd in the 3200m (13:23.66). Junior Haley Zuchowski took home 2nd in the 100m hurdles (18.26) and won the 300m hurdles (53.0). The 4x100m relay team of Bleggi, Jackson, Graver, and Junior Raisa Rogers won in 53.08, the 4x400m relay of Senior Caitlynn Butler, Junior Hannah Guindon, Rogers, and Davis were 2nd (4:51.06), and the 4x800m relay team of Butler, Davis, Sweeney, and Junior Camryn Keane won in 11:29.01.

Rogers won the high jump (4' 10"), Junior Joey Taft won the pole vault (7' 6"), Graver was 3rd in the long jump (15'), and Jackson won the triple jump (36' 3.25"). Sophomore Allyssa Boyd was 5th in the shot put (24' 11.25"), Senior Meghan Bodine won the discus (79' 7"), and Sophomore Samantha Spurgeon was 3rd in the javelin (81' 6").

On the boys side, the Hornets finished in third place with 34 points. Senior Nick Marple was 4th in the 100m (12.17), Senior Kieron Smethers was 3rd in the 200m (24.16), and Junior Isaac Leach was 4th in the 800m (2:28.04).

Isaac Leach took home 4th in the 1600m (5:24.31) and 3rd in the 3200m (12:12.25). Senior Jack Chambers was 2nd in the 110m hurdles (18.33) and won the 300m hurdles (43.9). The 4x400m relay team of Chambers, Smethers and Sophomores Jacob Singer and Devan Warner were third (4:06.44), and the 4x800m team of Leach, Singer, Junior James Mundy, and Freshman Connor Brought were 3rd (9:52.22).

Marple won the high jump (6'), Smethers was 3rd in the long jump (18' 8"), Junior Rich Tardieu was 3rd in the triple jump (36'). Senior Jonas Benner won the shot put (38' 8.5") and finished 6th in the discus (91' 10"), and Sophomore Brandon Lamphier was 6th in the javelin (103' 6").

The girls start the season at 1-1 (1-1 NTL), while the boys are 0-2 (0-2 NTL). Both teams will be back in action on Friday, April 10 as they participate in the Molly Dry Invite at Mansfield University.
