Mitchell to play soccer at Keystone College

Senior Jake Mitchell will continue his soccer career next fall after offiically announcing his commitment to Keystone College on Tuesday, May 5.

Mitchell was a three-year starter in goal for the Hornet Soccer program. During his senior year he allowed 17 goals season while making 99 saves and recorded 12 shut outs to lead the Hornets to a 14-6 record. That feat earned him Goalie of the Year and first team honors on the All-Region boys soccer team by the Towanda Daily Review.

"Keystone's coach contacted me and that sparked my interest in the school," Mitchell said. "After I took my visit and with the scholarship help it made the choice a lot simpler. The team is on a good streak, the coach has been there for the last couple of years, and have turned the program around.

"It's a nice school with my major of pre-physicians assistant and with smaller class sizes I can get more educational help and it will make everything easier," concluded Mitchell.

Wellsboro head coach John Shaffer was very proud of Jake and what he's accomplished during his career.

"I was very hard on Jake this year and he has grown so much since he started at goalie in his sophomore year," Shaffer said. "If he continues his hard work and dedication to his craft he will have an excellent college career. Jake has the size of big time goalies. I think Keystone is getting a steal with bringing Jake in."
