The Wellsboro Middle School Boys Basketball team went 1-1 on Friday, February 27 at the Williamsport Tournament.

Wellsboro lost their first game to Montoursville, 41-37. The Hornets found themselves trailing 11-1 after the opening quarter as Montoursville scored easy layups. Wellsboro trailed 20-11 at halftime, but that's when Wellsboro stepped up the defensive pressure forcing Montoursville to turn the ball over. Wellsboro finally took the lead in the third quarter after Andrew Brelo hit a buzzer beating three.

The Hornets ran out of time in the fourth quarter as they were forced to foul with 1:30 remaining in the game, however they only had two team fouls at that point as Montoursville held on for the win.

Taynton Repard and Brelo each had nine points to lead the team. Holden Kennedy added five points, Tanner Button and Nate Redell each scored two points, and Carson Davis pitched in one.

Wellsboro won their second game 39-35 over Williamsport Cherry. The Hornets held a slim 11-9 after the first quarter and trailed by a point at halftime. Once again Wellsboro stepped up the defensive pressure in the second half. The Hornets trailed 28-25 heading into the fourth quarter before outscoring Williamsport Cherry for the win.

Brandyn Tuttle led the way with 15 points, three steals, two assists, and seven rebounds. Brelo scored 10 points, Kennedy had eight points and three rebounds, and Button recorded four assists and two rebounds.

"The boys are playing with intensity and are showing improvement every game," said head coach Ed Hamm. "Hopefully we can put four solid quarters together tomorrow against a solid Danville team."
