Ingerick named NTL Female Athlete of the Year

By: Ed Weaver  /  May 24, 2016

Senior Sarah Ingerick was named the NTL Female Athlete of the Year on Monday, May 23 at the Best Western Grand Victorian Inn in Sayre, PA.

The NTL Athletic Directors Athlete of the Year award was started in 2007 to honor the outstanding male and female student-athletes of the Northern Tier League. The award recognizes NTL athletes for superior athletic skill, leadership, academic excellence and the willingness and eagerness to participate in community service.

Each NTL school nominates one male and female athlete to represent their respective schools, with the athletes of the year being voted on by all of the league's athletic directors. Receiving the NTL Male Athlete of the Year was Northeast Bradford's Levi Upham.

Ingerick is the fourth Hornet to win the Male or Female Athlete of the Year award, and is the first to win the award since Jordan Jackson won back in 2013 and the first Lady Hornet to do so since Alex Marple in 2011. Jake Coolidge also won back in 2009 for Wellsboro.

"I'm really honored to be nominated," Ingerick said after receiving the award. "I've worked hard all four years and to be recognized in front of my family and my coach is really great."

For Ingerick, a two-time all-state softball selection, 1,000 point basketball scorer, and softball's all-time career hits leader, the NTL Female Athlete of the Year award is yet another accomplishment in her stellar career. Also on Monday, Ingerick and fellow senior Dawson Prough, who also represented Wellsboro at the banquet, were named Male and Female Athletes of the Year earlier in the afternoon.

"It's definitely a great way to end it all," Ingerick said in terms of looking back on her career at Wellsboro. "I'm really honored to just be nominated and to also get the award."

While her career isn't over yet in a Green and White uniform (the Lady Hornets begin their defense of their District IV AA softball crown on Thursday at home against Wyalusing), Ingerick believes this will push her to keep working hard, both in the post-season and next year when she attends Gannon University.

"I've also been motivated and this award will motivate me more going on with college and working even harder at softball."

WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratulate both Sarah and Dawson on tremendous senior years, and would like to thank them for all the hard work and dedication they have shown to their respective sports over the past four year.
