Jersey Shore shuts out Wellsboro, 9-0.

After starting the season 3-0, the Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team dropped their third straight game, 9-0 to Jersey Shore on Saturday, April 15.

Jersey Shore's Mac Griswold scored an early run on a passed ball as Koby Peacock drew a walk to make it 1-0. Both teams went three-up, three-down in their next at bats before the Bulldogs added two more runs in the top of the third.

Griswold was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, then a triple by Brandon Depasqua scored Griswold to make it 2-0 and Depasqua later scored as Peacoack singled to center field to make it 3-0.

The score remained 3-0 in favor of Jersey Shore until the seventh inning as the Bulldogs scored six runs to put the game away.

Wellsboro struggled at the plate the entire morning against Shore's Timmy Saar. Saar pitched a complete game and had a no-hitter throught seven and two-thirds innings until freshman Billy Lechler broke it up on a single to shallow right field.

Junior Johnny Rowland pitched the first three innings, giving up three runs on three hits and striking out one. Lechler came on in the fourth for two scoreless innings. Junior Dalton Prough pitched two-thirds of the seventh inning and sophomore Taynton Repard pitched the final one-third of the seventh.

"We play well up until the late innings and we seem to get tired or fatigued or loose focus on the little things and the wheels fall off," said head coach Philip Prough. "That's happened the last three games and its indicative of a young team. Saar is one of the top pitchers down in Lycoming County. He's a great pitcher. At least up until the later part of the game, we only struck out twice, we just couldn't put the bat on the ball. Jersey Shore is a quality team, we knew that when we scheduled them, and we knew it purposefully so we could play quality teams."

The Hornets, now 3-3 (3-2 NTL Large School Division), will square off against rivals North Penn-Mansfield on Tuesday, April 18.
