Lady Hornets cruise past Towanda

Four Lady Hornets scored in double figures as Wellsboro cruised past Towanda, 69-34 on Monday, January 8.

Senior Tory Self scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Lady Hornets while junior Emma Poirier and senior Rachael Tuttle both scored 17 points each. Tuttle also added in 10 rebounds to record a double-double. Senior Lizzie Poirier scored 12 and sophomore Cathryn Brought added five.

Similar to their last few game the Lady Hornets put Monday's game firmly in their grasp by outscoring the Black Knights 23-8 in the first quarter. Wellsboro also put up another 23 points in the second to run out to a 46-17 lead at the half.

Towanda made up a little ground in the third by outscoring Wellsboro 12-8, but were down to far behind to make it a close game.

The Lady Hornets closed out the game with a 15-5 fourth quarter after leading 54-29 after the third.

Self added 3 rebounds, 5 steals, and 3 assists; Lizzie Poirier grabbed 7 boards and made 2 assists; Emma Poirier had 4 rebounds and 5 assists; and Brought had 7 rebounds, 4 steals, and 4 assists.

Towanda won the JV game 25-18 to drop Wellsboro to 1-7. Freshman Bailey Monks led the Lady Hornets with 7 points.

The win improves the Varsity team's record to 9-0 (6-0 NTL Large School Division). The Lady Hornets host Athens on Wednesday, January 10.
