Lady Hornets fall to Towanda, 63-44

The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team dropped the season series to Towanda after suffering a 63-44 loss on Wednesday, January 29.

The Lady Hornets found themselves trailing 17-11 after the 1st quarter, but the Black Knights put the game firmly in their control as they outscored Wellsboro 41-22 in the 2nd and 3rd quarters to build a 58-33 lead. Wellsboro did outscored Towanda 11-5 in the final quarter but couldn't make up any more ground.

Senior Cathryn Brought led Wellsboro with 20 points and junior Bailey Monks had 12. Sophomore Emma Coolidge had 7 points, freshmen Rylie Boyce and Jordyn Abernathy added 2 points each, and sophomore Emma Brandenburg rounded out the scoring with 1 point.

Four Black Knights were in double figures on the evening led by Paige Manchester with 16.

Towanda won the JV game 29-18. Brandenburg led the Lady Hornets with 7 points.

The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 6-9 (6-6 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Friday, January 31 as they host Wyalusing.
