Hornets pound out 25 runs against Troy.

The Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team secured their 1st win of the season as they defeated Troy 25-3 in 5 innings on Tuesday, April 6.

"Our bats came alive the whole game. We had a good aggressive mindset tonight," said head coach Steve Adams.

That might be an understatement.

After dropping their season-opening game over the weekend to Canton by a run, the Hornets' offense exploded for 15 runs in the first two innings. The Trojans got 3 runs back in the bottom of 3rd but then the Hornets put the game away with 10 runs in the top of the 5th.

Sophomore Cameron Brought and junior Isaac Keane both led the Hornets at the plate going 3-for-5. Keane had a double and Brought hit three of them to tie himself with Dawson Prough for all-time doubles in a game. Sophomore Blake Hamblin went 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs while junior Darryn Callahan and sophomore Conner Adams each had base hits. Senior Brock Hamblin drew 3 walks and scored 4 runs, Brought scored 4 runs, and junior Dylan Abernathy, senior Landon Goetsch, Keane, Callahan, Blake Hamblin, and Adams all scored 2 runs each.

Brought and Keane also added 3 RBIs each.

Keane started on the mound for Wellsboro and got the win as he threw a one-hitter in 2 & 2/3 innings. He allowed 2 runs (both earned), 3 walks, and struck out 4. Brought pitched 1 & 1/3 innings and allowed 1 run and 5 walks and a strikeout. Senior Kaeden Mann also threw an inning, striking out 1 and walking 2.

The win evens the Hornets' record up at 1-1 (1-1 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Thursday, April 8 at rival North Penn-Mansfield.
