Athens tops Canton; NEB falls to Elk Lake.

Athens saw 10 players score as they used a strong second half to put away Canton 86-48 in NTL boys' basketball action Monday.

The Wildcats held a close 20-15 lead after the first quarter but opened it up to a 39-28 advantage at the half. They then went on to out score the Warriors 47-20 in the second half to secure the win.

Brandon Fauver had 21 points to lead the Wildcats while Jarrett Priester added 19, with four threes. Dan Moyer scored 12, Dan Fisher had seven while Zane Vargason netted six. Tyler Forbes and Patrick Cole had five points each while Doug Stack and Joe Moyer netted four points a piece.

Mason Moore had 16 points to lead Canton while Christian Thoren and Brandon Shrader scored eight points a piece. Tre Sawtell added six, Jesse Lattimer and Dylan Fleet had four points each while Chris Whitehead rounded out the scoring with two.

Elk Lake 73, Northeast Bradford 38

Jordan Goodwin had a double-double in the loss for the Panthers in boys' basketball action Monday.

Goodwin had 12 points and 10 boards, along with six blocks for Northeast while Andy Seeley added eight points, seven boards and five steals.

Elk Lake jumped out to a 25-8 lead in the first quarter. In the second Northeast tried to claw back, keeping the deficit to 42-21 at the half but Elk Lake would go on to out score them 31-17 in the second half to secure the win.

Elija Arias added eight points and two assists for NEB while Mason Merrill had four, Tommy Rought netted three and Garrett Smith scored two. Smith also had two assists.

Tanner Ryan had 30 points to lead Elk Lake.

Elk Lake won the JV game 51-30 as Austin Senn-Bishop had eight points for Northeast.

The Panthers host Wellsboro today.

Candor 44, Tioga 39

In a back and forth IAC boys' basketball contest the Tigers came up short despite Josh Kithcart scoring nine points and grabbing 20 boards.

Candor led 10-6 after the opening quarter but Tioga cut it to 22-20 at the half. It was a 31-30 Candor advantage going into the final quarter where they scored 13 points, 11 of them at the free throw line, to secure the win.

Candor lived at the line, going 23-for-38 in the contest.

For Tioga Michael Williams had seven points, three steals and three assists while John Dougherty also had seven points. Adam Zwierlein added five points, Parker Hendershot scored four, Zach Worthington added three while Noah Schumacher and Sam Burns had two points each.

James Tompkins had 16 points to lead Candor.

Candor won the JV game 49-45.

NRCS 60, Binghamton Blaze 41

North Rome Christian School got 14 points and seven boards from Kyle Bert as they picked up a win Monday. Nathan Romanowski chipped in with 12 points and three steals.

Ben Haefka added eight points and four boards while Riley Gorsline had eight points and three rebounds for NRCS. Johnny Mosier scored six points while Nathan Helmuth had five points and four assists.

Also for NRCS Nate Gray added three points while Seth Winward and Cole Hiduk had two points each. Winward also had three steals.
