ATHENS — Athens' Ethan Lane was recently named to the United Soccer Coaches Regional All-American team.

Lane, who led the NTL in goals scored, was named to the all-state team and pushed the Wildcats to another league title and a district title game. He is just the second player under coach Jake Lezak to be honored in such a way.

Ryan Segar was the other.

"It feels remarkable," said Lane. "It's such a great honor. Only a select few are selected, I feel honored to selected as one of the best."

As recently as a few years ago, Lane didn't think this would happen to him.

"I never dreamed of this at all," remarked Lane. "Not even four years ago when I was a freshman. I didn't think this would be possible. I worked very hard the last two years to get to this level ,and it has shown."

After Segar left, Lane took on the scoring load and this past season he did whatever his team needed.

"It's been challenging," he explained. "Anything the team needs I'm always there to help out."

Lane's younger brother Aaron Lane has been along for the ride the past two seasons as well.

"It's been great," said Ethan. "He brings out the best in me. I always want him to be by my side and he's a great player on the field, too."
