Sayre downs Towanda, 6-1.

Sam Wheeler scored two goals and had an assist to lead Sayre to their 6-1 win over Towanda on Tuesday.

Jordan Rockwell scored twice for Sayre, Cody Vanbenthuysen had a goal and an assist and Nick Bentley scored his first career goal.

Ryan Risch scored on a penalty kick for Towanda.

Camden Wheeler made nine saves for Sayre and Jared McNeal had 10 for the Black Knights. Sayre and Towanda both took six corners.

Sayre travels to Wellsboro on Thursday.

Notre Dame 8, Watkins Glen 1

The Notre Dame boys’ soccer team defeated Watkins Glen, 8-1, on Tuesday evening.

Gavin Harrington scored a hat trick for ND; Mitchell Vargas had two goals and one assist; Connor Simpson added three assists; Patrick Finnerty, Kevin Bayne and Justin McCarthy each had one goal; and John Hunter Booth, Dan Stearns and Andrew Finnerty each had one assist.

ND outshot WG, 24-3, and held the edge in corners, 7-0.

ND keeper, Caleb Colucci, finished with two saves on the day.

Liberty 3, Northern Potter 1

Luke Yoder scored twice to lead Liberty to their 3-1 win over Northern Potter on Tuesday.

Nathaniel Johnson also scored a goal for Liberty, while Taylor Nelson had two assists and Riley Walker had one assist.

Scoring for Northern Potter was Dakota Perkins, unassisted.

Liberty outshot NP, 23-12, and NP held the edge in corner kicks, 8-3.

Liberty keeper Nick Grimell finished with 11 saves, while NP’s Holden Cowburn had 14.

Williamson 5, Troy 1

Williamson defeated Troy, 5-1, in local soccer action on Tuesday.

Andrew Learn scored twice for Williamson, while Simon Fish, Ethan Shaefer and Sam Fish each had one goal.

Scoring for Troy was Kaden Murray.

Williamson outshot Troy, 9-6, and both teams finished with four corner kicks.

Wellsboro 7, NEB 0

Brett Rudy scored a hat trick to lead Wellsboro to their 7-0 win over NEB on Tuesday.

Noah Fitch scored two goals for Wellsboro, Cam Tennis and Kaeden Mann each scored one goal.

Nolan Lohr finished with three assists and Tanner Runyan and Gabe Leach each had two assists.

Wellsboro outshot NEB, 33-4, and held the edge in corner kicks, 6-2.

Athens 5, Galeton 0

Brad Cardona netted two goals as the Wildcats knocked off the Galeton Tigers, 5-0, on Tuesday at Galeton Area High School.

In the first half, at 17:44, Cardona dribbled through defenders for his first goal of the game, which also gave Athens a 1-0 lead.

Nine minutes later, Willy Tilley scored off of an assist from David Sheftic, giving Athens a 2-0 advantage. Sheftic then, at 3:14, in the first half scored a goal on a direct kick, making 3-0 ‘Cats.

In the second, with eight minutes into the half, Ethan Lane found the back of the net to put Athens up 4-0.

Cardona rounded out the Wildcats’ scoring effort with a goal at 18:56.

Braden Priester and Joel Maslin combined to make seven saves for the Wildcats, and Brandon Ruef made nine for the Tigers. Athens outshot Galeton, 12-7, on goal, while the ‘Cats took five corner kicks and the Tigers had three.

The Wildcats take on Liberty this Thursday at 5:30 p.m.


Groton 9, Tioga 0

Tioga lost to Groton 9-0 in girls’ soccer action on Tuesday.

Groton outshot Tioga, 36-3 and held the edge in corner kicks, 15-0.

Kylie Zimmerman and Cheyenne Harkins combined for 27 saves for Tioga.


Muncy 3, Sullivan County 2

Sullivan Country lost to Muncy in girls’ soccer action on Monday.

Macy McCarthy and Emily Wettlaufer each scored for Sullivan, and Bethany Bienlich had an assist.

McKenna Amer finished with seven saves for Sullivan.

Sullivan held the edge in corner kicks, 5-2.
