Coach Hurlbert is in his second year as an Assistant Varsity coach, however he has not coached with Wellsboro since 2011. Prior to 2011 Coach Hurlbert coached in the Wellsboro Football Program for three years with the Small Fry Program (5th-6th grade) as a Defensive Coordinator and Wide Receiver Coach.
After finishing his football career and graduating from Wellsboro High School in 2000, Coach Hurlbert attended Penn State University where he was involved in football and coaching the Wellsboro Small Fry Teams. After graduating from Penn State University with a degree in Civil Engineering, Coach Hurlbert moved to Florida for three years before returning to his Alma Mater to help rebuild a program the Hornets and community have been looking for.
In 2012, Coach Hurlbert relocated to Brockway, PA and from 2012 through 2015 had coaching responsibilities such as Defensive and Special Teams Coordinator, JV Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator, RB/WR/DB Coach, and was also the co-strength and conditioning coach and IT/Media Manager. During his time with Brockway, the Rovers amassed a 33-17 record with 2 D9 Semifinals and 2 D9 Finals appearances. He also had a hand in coaching 8 all-state players, and 19 all-star players. As Special Teams Coordinator, his kicker was named D9 Special Teams Player of the year twice. He also helped develop two 1,000+ yd RBs, and five 1,000+ yd WRs.
In 2016, Coach Hurlbert took a job as the area engineer for Dominion Transmission and also owns HD Engineering. His job with Dominion relocated him to Tamarack, PA where he lives with his wife Janelle and their three golden retrievers. Additionally, he has taken an active interest in the community and as a professional engineer has provided design services for the Soldiers and Sailors Emergency Room Expansion and various projects, including a local non-kill animal shelter.
